Auburndale is conveniently located along the Charles River, right by both 95 & the Pike making it super commuter friendly, as well as minutes to Waltham's Moody St. But, it's also a hidden gem with lots of history and secret hidden spots!
First settled in the 1600s, Auburndale was once known as Auburndale-on-the-Charles
Norumbega Park, today a conservation area with trails and picnic areas, was once a popular amusement park with rides, a zoo and the famous "Totem Pole Ballroom" - what a fun time it must've been back in 1897 when it first opened!
It's home to Lasell College, which originally opened in 1851 as "Auburndale Female Seminary" and was the first two-year college for women in the country
The Knotty Pine has been a local favorite for breakfast and lunch for 23 years!
You can rent a kayak from Paddle Boston, in a historic boathouse right next to the Marriott Hotel and enjoy a relaxing ride along the Charles!
Auburndale Cove, dubbed "the Cove", is a wonderful park and playground along the Charles and also Newton's only skating area along the river, making it a popular spot in the snowy winter months!
Lastly, if you're looking for a fun night out, stop by Ward 4, one of our new-ish favorites - the Salt & Pepper wings are a must try, and check out their long list of Newton-themed bevvies, from the Pike, Norumbega, the Gath Pool, Tigers & Lions (#goTigers!) and Melanie's personal favorite - the Auburndale Espresso!
