Welcome to Newton Lower Falls - another area of Newton we consider a little hidden gem! It's an adorable little pocket right off both route 128 and the Mass Pike, and nestled by the Weston & Wellesley town lines. This makes it very commuter friendly, and a fabulous affordable alternative to more expensive parts of Newton.
The Falls date back as far as the early 1700s, when a dam was built to generate power for ironworks.
In the 19th century, the production of paper became the village's main industry, and many homes along Grove St were built for mill owners and workers.
Newton's first fire station was started in the Lower Falls, the Cataract No 1.
Since 1935, it's home to the Lower Falls Wine Company, a famous fine wine & spirits store where you can not only find unique selections, but weekly wine tastings - sign us up!
Many of its grand homes and landmarks were demolished in the early 1900s with the construction of Rt 128, although much of what's left today is on the National Register of Historic Places.
It's home to St Mary's Episcopal Church, the oldest church in Newton!
You can find fields and the Lower Falls Community Center, home to the popular "Fall's Ball" community event.
Remember penny candy stores? Step back in time and visit Indulge to stock up on all sorts of goodies and sweet treats!
It abuts the Leo J. Martin Golf Course, aka the Weston Ski Track - a fun spot for golf and hitting the driving range in the summer, and cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter!
