Welcome to Thompsonville, perhaps one of Newton's least known villages. It's an elusive section along Rt 9, Chestnut Hill, and Newton Center - you'll see its sign on your way up Langley to Wegmans!
Thompsonsville was NOT named after Melanie's husband (James Thompson!), but instead after a man named Thompson who lived in its woods in the early 1800s - while a working man, legend has it he was a bit of a hermit!
A few families started to settle there by the mid-1800s, eventually beginning to hold Sunday school classes in one of the homes and eventually opening its first school in its First Baptist Chapel.
Today, it's home to Bowen School, probably the most well-known landmark of Thompsonville.
Florence St, Wegmans & the Chestnut Hill Mall are all technically in "Thompsonville", although that area is often thought more as Chestnut Hill.
It has no real "village hub", but the center would be where Thompson's house had been and where the old Atrium Mall stands today.
